What we do
We are Cidadeapé – Association for Walking Mobility in São Paulo, a volunteer-based civil society organization dedicated to defending the rights of those who travel on foot through Brazil’s biggest capital, whether on their own two feet or in a wheelchair. The association was founded in 2015 to formally represent the perspective of pedestrians before public authorities.
We are active on multiple fronts: raising awareness, advocating to public authorities, and sharing knowledge. Our work is coordinated with other civil society organizations, academia, and the media, and we actively engage in civic participation. Although Cidadeapé focuses on the municipal level, we also participate in discussions about policies and regulations at the state and federal levels.
Our Mission and Vision
Mission: Advocate for public policies that ensure everyone has the right to walk safely, freely, comfortably, and with quality, regardless of gender, race, age, physical condition, or socioeconomic status.
Objectives: We strive to make São Paulo an accessible and fair city, so that interactions in public spaces are more humane and there is a better quality of life. In order to reach it, we push public authorities to develop and implement public policies for sustainable, equitable, and integrated urban mobility; and work to promote and safeguard diverse and decentralized social participation.
