The International Federation of Pedestrians (IFP) is delighted to welcome Cidadeapé as a new member of our global network.
Based in São Paulo, Brazil, Cidadeapé is a leading civil society organisation dedicated to promoting walking, accessibility and more people-centred cities. Since its foundation, the organisation has worked to ensure that pedestrians are recognised not as an afterthought in transport planning, but as the foundation of urban mobility.
Their work is rooted in a simple but powerful idea: every journey begins and ends on foot. Despite this reality, pedestrians often remain overlooked in public policy, infrastructure investment and urban development. Cidadeapé has become one of Brazil’s most influential voices advocating for safer, more accessible and more inclusive streets for everyone.

Promoting walkable cities in Brazil
Cidadeapé combines advocacy, research, public engagement and policy dialogue to improve conditions for people walking throughout São Paulo and beyond. The organisation works on issues including pedestrian safety, accessibility, public space, urban mobility and the right to the city.
Through collaboration with communities, public authorities and mobility professionals, Cidadeapé has contributed to important debates on how Brazilian cities can become healthier, more equitable and more sustainable places to live.
Their work recognises that walking is much more than a mode of transport. It is essential for social inclusion, public health, environmental sustainability and access to opportunities. Creating cities where people can walk safely and comfortably benefits children, older people, people with disabilities and society as a whole.
Strengthening the pedestrian movement in Latin America
Latin America has been home to some of the world’s most innovative urban mobility policies, yet pedestrians continue to face significant challenges, including road danger, inadequate sidewalks, accessibility barriers and the prioritisation of motorised traffic.
Organisations such as Cidadeapé play a vital role in ensuring that walking remains part of the conversation about the future of cities. Their experience in citizen participation, advocacy and public policy brings valuable perspectives to the international pedestrian movement.
By joining IFP, Cidadeapé strengthens our collective ability to share knowledge, exchange experiences and advocate for policies that place people at the centre of urban mobility.
Building a global network for walking
IFP brings together organisations, researchers, practitioners and advocates from around the world who share a common vision: creating cities, towns and communities where walking is safe, accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.
We look forward to collaborating with Cidadeapé and learning from their experience in Brazil as we continue working together to advance pedestrian rights and promote more walkable communities worldwide.
Welcome to the network, Cidadeapé.
