IFP at walk 21 in lisbon

IFP and members from all over the world came together at Walk 21

What a week in Lisbon! Once again, The Walk 21 Foundation organized a fantastic conference where pedestrian advocates, public institutions, academics, and cities came together to share their work and create new paths forward.

IFP had the chance to bring together the organisation, meet many of our members in person, and explore the city with our own eyes.

We all had a fantastic session, during which each member shared updates on the amazing work they are doing worldwide.

America Walks, Piétons Québec, Vision Zero Taiwan, Living Streets Aotearoa, Fuss.e.V, Movimento Diritti dei Pedoni, Raahgiri Foundation, Voetgangersbeweging, Pedestrian Mobility Switzerland, ACA-M, La Zancada, Walk Space, Fundación Colombiana de Peatones or Yaya Dernegi were able to join us a share their experiences.

It was great to hear about the amazing actions, projects and research that our members are working and leading on in each corner of the world. As part of our workshop, we organised a session on narrative change with our members to explore how we can better organise ourselves within our communities and local areas, creating alliances and improving how we reach people with our message for change.

Our president Geert van Waeg also introduced the work we are doing on our new sidewalk scanner under the REALLOCATE project and the possibilities it has to generate an improved understanding of the quality and accessibility of our sidewalks around the world.

We also had a very special moment thanks to Bronwen Thornton and Jim Walker for recognising the work and lifelong advocacy of our secretary general Mario Alves. It was truly inspiring and we have a busy but wonderful year full of new opportunities in front of us. Let’s keep pushing, walking and working together for real change. Very much looking forward to next year in Tirana!

And it would not be IFP if we did not explore the city ourselves and did our own local advocacy while visiting Lisbon….
