Fachverband Fußverkehr Deutschland (in short: FUSS e.V.) is a pressure group, based on initiative and activities of its members. It gives advice and provides solutions for the improvement of the conditions for pedestrians. It works in national and international bodies and committees. In its board experts as well as laymen are working.
FUSS e.V. works on a broad range of topics including pedestrians safety, traffic laws, road crossing devices, walkways, children, elderly people, handicapped persons, traffic/transportation and environment, intermodal mobility and health.
FUSS e.V. publishes:
- mobilogisch – a quarterly journal for ecological, political and mobility questions (since 1980),
- Kritischer Literaturdienst Fußgängerverkehr – a critical survey on pedestrians´mobility (since 1992), and
- Fußnote – a series of reports that deal with more complex subjects like coexistence and conflicts with cyclists (since 1992).
FUSS e. V. is co-organizer of Environment- and Transport Conference BUVKO (“Bundesweiter Umwelt- und Verkehrskongress”, every two years, since 1978).
Our Mission and Vision
- Walking must become safer, healthier, more pleasant and more attractive for pedestrians, walkers and hikers.
- The environmental network (walking, cycling, bus and train) in urban areas and countryside must be strengthened for everyday life and leisure traffic.
FUSS e.V. works to ensure that pedestrians are perceived by the public as the most numerous road users in cities – no longer exclusively as accident victims. Equal treatment of pedestrians should be anchored in road construction guidelines.
The previous changes to the road traffic regulations have not yet made a sufficient contribution to increasing pedestrian traffic: speed reductions are only hesitantly, if at all, ordered, especially on main roads with often heavy pedestrian traffic. This example shows that improvements can only be achieved through continuous and professionally qualified work.
